Iraqi Films, Video Clips and Stories online
No country in the world has been reported on so heavily - the occupation, the execution of Saddam and the daily terror have been popular events in the international media.
But the reality beyond Baghdad's Greenzone is hardly known. The life of regular people, their culture, their suffering and their visions are hidden from the eyes of the world. Unless journalists are embedded with the coalition forces, the country has become almost impossible to report on. But without the human stories there is no chance of engaging in the complex fragmentation of Iraqi society and the biggest political calamity of our time.
TV screens don't show what is really going on in Iraq; the situation has been desensitized and pushed into the background of people's lives. Above all, people all over the world, and especially Iraqis, have become highly suspicious of the mass media. Iraq represents the end of mass media as a major actor in raising awareness and public opinion.
Iraqiscope wants to fill this media gap by showcasing films and texts made by Iraqis about their daily life, their culture and their politics.
