The Iraqi Poet Ali Bader visits the Al Mada Festival in Erbil in 2007. He discusses with the perticipating artists in this documentary the relation between culture and sectarianism in Iraq today.
The movie is produced by UNESCO and MICT.
The Al Mada Culture Festival is an annual event in Erbil, presenting art and culture from Iraq and from the worldwide Iraqi Diaspora.
The Festival is run by the Al Mada Cultural Institution, which is based in Damascus and Baghdad. It encompasses a publishing house, a daily newspaper, and a cultural magazine.
Ali Bader was born in Baghdad in 1964, where he studied French literature. In 2001 he published his first novel, Papa Satre, in which he critically portrayed the 1960s generation that dominated the cultural sphere in the Arab region then. The novel, which has been translated into French, won him the state award for literature in Baghdad and the Tunisian Abu al Qasim Award. He is currently the Editor in Chief of the Al Mada Literature Magazine.
